What does civilization mean to huck

Holden distanced himself by wearing this hat. Throughout the novel, Holden leaves hints insinuating that he is distancing himself from people and society through his actions and decisions. The boy's father causes him to be evil by never loving him or even caring for him. Sean doesn't want the boy so he never loves him and doesn't care about what is best for him.

The boy is refereed to as "the vague shadow in the upper window of an ancient family home" Murr Living a life that no one loves you in is not only hard but it is enough to make you evil because we get our values from are loved ones. A foster home is not a good place for a child to be raised and that may be the reason for the way that the boy ends up, evil. Even though by the end of the novel, Huck still does not want to be a part of society, he has made a many choices for himself concerning morality.

Because Huck is allowed to live a civilized life with the Widow Douglas, he is not alienated like his father, who effectively hates civilization because he cannot be a part of it. He is not treated like a total outsider and does not feel ignorant or left behind. On the other hand, because he does not start out being a true member of the society, he is able to think for himself and dismiss the rules authority figures say are correct.

By the end of the novel, Huck is no longer a slave to the rules of authority, nor is he an ignorant outsider who looks out only for himself. He doesn't teach them right from wrong or good or bad.

He just gives them money to spend and tells them to do what they want. Squire Cass also doesn't influence them in a positive manner. Huck didn't like having to wear nice clothes, or even going to school, but the he had to go. You think you're a good deal of a big-bug, don't you" Pap asked p,26?

Huck would try and be a rebel because he had no male to tell him right from wrong. If Huck needed help the only real person that he could talk to would be Tom Sawyer, a very good friend also a thief, a rebel, and he lived on his own. Her first dilemma was the fact Shylock cared much more about his money than he did for her.

Before Shylock leaves the house in act 2 scene 5 he tells her to lock it up. He does this not out of love, but because he is worried about his money. He also wants to keep the anti-Semitic behaviour of the outside world away from her and his house. Huck is tired of this and exclaims, "all I wanted was to go somewheres; all I wanted was a change, I warn't particular" 2. Had he had a close friend die before the war, it is certain that he would not lie to their mother about how it happened, nor would he not show any emotion, so this interaction displays how his ability to display emotion has been impeded.

The other men would always laugh and joke at the priest but Henry never did. This is just the beginning of Henry changing, and at this point, he has no clue he is even changing.

Next he meets Catherine. Religion Once again, Twain is satirizing Religion. Ironically, most Christians only act Holy on Sundays, which is not right. This is another quality that is very necessary in order to receive forgiveness because without openly admitting to those who were harmed by the situation the sinner continues to live in secrecy. Claudius on the other hand, chooses to not apologise to his wife, Gertrude, or nephew, Hamlet, instead he confesses his sin by praying in act III scene iii.

By not admitting to his sin to either his wife or nephew Claudius did not allow for the opportunity for any harms to be repaired. This speaks to his cowardly character and his inability to take full responsibility for his actions. Because he never came forward to either Gertrude or Hamlet he was never able to be forgiven and ultimately died before any amends could be. This can be noticed throughout the book and in the three scenes talked about before because the white characters in the book often times make irrational comments about slaves that relate to what they are doing themselves.

The scene where the Duke, the King, and Huck are categorizing slaves as thieves, when they themselves are thieves shows the greater truth of slavery that slaves were categorized into certain types of people, even though it was not true of all slaves. The scene were Tom says that he would hang a slave if they were ungrateful and ranaway shows the greater truth of slavery that if a slave disobeyed, they deserved death.

As time goes on, the veil forces them to reflect on what it might mean, and what their own veils might be hiding. On the day that Mr. The topic of Mr. Being a child, Huck does everything he can to rebel again this idea. He believes that becoming civilized is a loss of freedom.

Huck also struggles with the idea of school. The Widow and Judge Thatcher says that you must study the bible and go to school. I think Huck rebels against school because his father has no education and physically and emotionally abuses him. His dad disapproves of Huck going to school, being able to read and get an education.
