How does olympic dressage scoring work
Hi, Being fairly new to the sport, I needed to know…. Are riders allowed to warm up on the inside of the competition arena, while another rider is being scored, as a warmup? Does this depend on the event organizers rules? The riders that are warming-up do so in another designated area.
Hope that helps. I had a question about if the scores are averaged when deciding ribbons for a class. For example If there is only one person in a class would they automatically get the blue even if their score was low?
Or do certain scores get certain color ribbons? If there is just one person in a class, they will still get a 1st place ribbon, even if they had a low score unless, of course, they were eliminated for any reason. On the flip side, you could get a really high score, but you may still not get a ribbon if there were other people who scored higher than you.
Sometimes, organisers will put restrictions on prize money for example, they may need to receive over a certain number of entrants in order to award prize money to the winners or they may restrict how many ribbons they give out for example, if the class has 5 entrants they may only award a 1st place ribbon to the highest scorer, but if the class had 20 entrants they might award ribbons 1st-5th for the five highest scorers.

Dressage tests contain a set of movements to be performed by horse and rider in front of a judge who then gives each movement a mark out of Following the completion of the test, the total number of good marks are divided by the total possible good marks to achieve a percentage, which is then subtracted from to achieve a penalty score.
This penalty score is carried by the horse and rider through the remainder of the competition. Judges will award good marks from for each movement and for each collective mark, with 0 being the lowest mark and 10 being the highest. All half marks from 0. He will be penalized by the effect of the fall on the execution of the movement concerned and in the collective marks. After elimination, a competitor may continue his performance to the end. The marks will be awarded in the ordinary way.
This test counts as qualification for the kur on music, in a different way than we are used to. The competitors are divided into six groups of ten. These groups will be formed on the basis of the world ranking list.
The intention is that on paper all groups are about the same strength. This will prevent a mediocre combination from qualifying for the final in a mediocre group. The best two combinations of each group will automatically go to the Freestyle. Besides these twelve combinations there are six combinations through to the final.
These are the six riders who are highest in the results, besides the riders who are already qualified of course. The percentages of the Grand Prix are not added to the scores of the Grand Prix Special, only one test counts for the team medals. Only eight countries 24 combinations will start in this test. This means that after the Grand Prix already some countries will be eliminated and not every country will participate in the team competition.
Riders have to provide their own music for the Grand Prix Special.
